By using digital technology to place audio books on CD, it brings the stories to life like never heard before. Audio books on tape are soon to be replaced by audio books on CD bringing a superior audio quality and improved durability. The CD format is used by publishers, retailers and rental clubs making it a favorable format for the industry.

Audio books on CD have two types of formats:

1. Regular CD compression which allows for approximately 80 minutes of audio recording time. But the time also depends on the audio file size of the audiobook. This is the most common type that everyone is use to as most computers have the appropriate CDR burners. With the regular compression, this means that multiple CD's are needed for one audiobook recording.

2. MP3 CD compression takes the same audio file and compresses it down to a much smaller size. This allows for more audio recording time and less CD's needed for an audiobook. Audio book rental clubs have less CD's to ship and listeners can now listen to audio books on fewer CD's. MP3 compression has become very popular with the creation of Apple iPod and the various MP3 players. Audio book MP3 CD's are growing in popularity as a result of the players, therefore more audio book titles are available in this format.

This does not mean you should take your old audio books on tape and throw them out. No...

Celtic Tattoos and Their Popularity

The history of the Celtic peoples goes back thousands of years. The early Celts displayed their skills in complex artwork particularly metal, jewelry and weapons as they were regarded as fierce warriors by the Romans. Evidence of celtic crossses and celtic artwork can still be found all over Ireland.

Modern Celtic peoples have evolved symbols for themselves, and in the North American people of Celtic descentoften wear these symbols to show that they are of Celtic descent. The ancient Celts passed knowledge down through an oral tradition of storytelling and didn't keep many written records, consequently, there is little evidence of their tattooing remaining even though celtic cross tattoos and celtic know tattoos are very popular designs.

Most of Celtic tattoo designs are taken from the Irish Illuminated Manuscripts 'The Book of Kells', on display in the library of Trinity College in Dublin, my home town. This is a much later time period than the height of Celtic tattooing. Designs from ancient stone and metal work are more likely to be from the same time period as Celtic tattooing.

Celtic knot tattoos are usually loops with no end or beginning symbolising the never ending cycle of death and rebirth. Celtic animal (zoomorphic tattoo designs) designs are similar in construction but the cords terminate in feet, heads, tails. Pure knots are usually unending, unless the end of a strand is stylized into a zoomorphic element or a spiral.

Celtic knotwork's meaning defies literal translation and is to be found at a deeper level. The repeated crossing of the physical and the spiritual are expressed in the interlace of the knots. The never ending path of the strands may represent the permanence and the continuum of life, love and faith and for these reason celtic tattoos have become so popular.

For people who have a Celtic heritage, whether Irish, Scots or Welsh , getting a Celtic design can be a way of expressing pride in their heritage by reaffirming an affinity the indigenous artistic style of their ancestors. They are usually not easy designs to do, and it is strongly recommended to anyone contemplating getting one to make sure that the artist they are considering has experience in designing Celtic tattoos. Not all tattoo artist have the eye for detail and exacting line placement needed to draw the intricate patterns particular to Celtic art.

Shipping Is Big Industry World-wide

Shipping has become a commercial enterprise for transferring or transporting of goods, cargoes and other materials from one location to the other through the sea by ships. Shipping is a vital part of the economy not only of certain countries but the whole world as well. Each country has its own standards and policies regarding shipping. For efficiency of shipping, some countries have special naval ships to make sure that the lawful goods will be successfully transported to the supposed location. The "merchant navies", as what it is called are made from tough durable materials to ensure the safety of the goods as they traversed through rough and huge waves. The merchant navies are carriers of international goods intended for shipping.

There are various sea vessels involved in shipping. It may include box boats or container ships, bulk carriers, tankers, ferries, cable layers, dredgers and barges. Container ships or box boats for shipping use huge containers to carry loads and cargoes. Savind space is of vital consideration for container ships. Extra big loads are handled through open top containers, platforms and flat racks. Loading and unloading of goods can be done using the right type of cranes. Most of the dry goods transported to different areas of the world are carried by container ships. Diesel engines provide the needed power to keep it going in shipping the goods from one point to the other.

Bulk carriers are deep sea vessels for shipping bulk goods like sugar, grains, rice and other bulky items. The big box-like structures situated on the deck is its notable features as compared with other shipping vessels. Tankers are vessels that are meant for shipping huge quantity of liquid hydrocarbon items like fuel, oil and gas around the world. Other tankers specialize in carrying chemicals like ammonia and chlorine. The largest tanker ship in the world is the Knock Nevis supertanker. Such shipping types can pose great threats on the environment if the liquid hydrocarbon spills on the sea or sinks down into the seabed. The type of tanker used would depend on the type of oil or materials carried which may include chemicals and crude oil.

Ferries are usually used as a passenger ship or boat together with the vehicles and goods carried by the passengers. As part of the public transport systems, ferries have scheduled shipping services. Cable layers, as what can be inferred from the name, are used to set cables for telecommunication, electricity and other related areas under the water. To prevent unwanted sediments from contaminating river beds or the bottom surfaces of harbors, dredgers are the commonly used vessels. The traditional barges together with tugboats are shipping vessels for rivers and canals. Barges are moved by tugboats to ship heavy goods but nowadays it only carries low value items since the capacity is not that tough. Barracks barge, Royal barge, liquid cargo barge, dry bulk cargo barge and railcar barge are the common types of shipping barges. Shipping must be done with utmost care to ensure that the goods will be delivered without any damages or defects.

What is Dedicated Web Hosting

For people, companies or organizations who are looking for the most dependable web hosting solution for their mission critical operations, dedicated hosting will give them what they need. Dedicated hosting isn't the right solution for everyone, and does have some drawbacks, but it has many more advantages than shared web hosting.

When a customer purchases shared web hosting they are on the same web server as hundreds and sometimes thousands of other websites. This can have a negative affect on performance and uptime. When you start using dedicated web hosting your website will be the only website on that server. Dependability is the number one reason people choose to go with a dedicated web hosting solution. Most dedicated hosting packages allow you to have multiple websites on one server, so if you have sister companies, separate divisions, other companies you have relationships with you can share server resources with them, usually with out making major performance sacrifices.

However all of this extra dependability and hardware does come at a higher price. Shared hosting packages run from $2 a month through about $50 a month, with most being less than $20 a month. The most bare bones dedicated hosting packages will start at $80 a month and range as high as several thousand a month. Most people find they fall in the $200 to $500 month range for dedicated hosting solutions. When looking at hosting packages there are two major areas you should be concerned with managed or unmanaged servers and hardware configurations. With an unmanaged server the customer is responsible for software, security and other maintenance that the server needs. Selecting an unmanaged server can often save you quite a bit of money over the year. However unless you or someone on your staff is experienced with maintaining a server this is usually not a good idea, and will cost you and money down the line. The next thing you have to consider is hardware for the machine, what size disks will you need, how fast does your processor have to be, how much bandwidth do you need and so on. When making these decisions plan for where you are today and where you plan to be in 18 to 24 months from now. You want to make sure you allow for future growth, but you don't want to overpay for resources you are never going to use.

Recycle - Where to Get Cheap Materials

New timber is very attractive - it's clean and straight and full of promise - just waiting for you to cut and shape and finish.

But it costs, and while some may have been well seasoned, most is only kiln dried, which can result in shrinkage, warping and cracking over time. This may not matter, depending on what one is making.

You may have noticed with a piece of timber that is straight and true, when it is sawn down into two pieces, each can warp dramatically, due to the changed internal stresses.

Recycled Timber By finding sources of old timber to recycle, you can save a great deal of money, and reduce by a large amount the costs of your projects. There major drawback is that some time must be spent on preparation of the timber before you can go ahead.

I have used lots of second hand timber. It's usually dirty, but a sand or a plane soon returns it to its former beauty.

Oak beams are the best example of this transformation - the decayed looking, dirty crumbling surface is usually very thin, and once removed the resulting beam is clean, hard and beautiful.

One major attraction is that it is well seasoned - shrinkage and warping was done long ago.

True, if sawn in half, twisting can still happen as the stresses are changed, but mostly it will be stable.

One drawbacks is that there may be nails, and other faults, but depending on what is being used for, this may not matter.

Look for faults, twisting, and warping, when selecting wood to be used. Sources - reclamation yards, auctions, farms, demolition sites.

Old furniture This is another very useful source of timber although usually of smaller dimensions. Wardrobes, cupboards, tables, boxes all yield useful stuff.

Surplus stuff Look on-line for surplus wood and furniture. Often the damaged goods section will reveal a bargain.

Surplus roof trusses can provide loads of structural timbers if one can work round the connector plates, which are tricky to remove.

You could also ask at a local building site - they sometimes have over-ordered, or have damaged stuff they can't use. They might be pleased to see you.

Pallets Again depending what you are doing, pallets can be found all over the place, and the wood is usually well seasoned and strong (but with nails!).

Old stock Lots of places sell off discontinued lines at knock down prices - flat pack units and assembled stuff are a great source on mdf and chipboard.
